If you are looking for convenient dental solutions, then you’ve probably considered CEREC. This innovative technology is well-known for giving dentists the ability to create crowns on-site, in a matter of minutes. However, that is just one of many great benefits this system has to offer, as area patients are learning.
Proven technology with a tradition of excellence
Although single visit crowns are often considered new technology, CEREC is based in decades of scientific research and discovery. The first prototype chairside restorations were created in the 1980s, and this technology began making its way into dental offices by the 1990s. In 2003, International Journal of Computerized Dentistry published a study in which investigators evaluated the long-term survival CEREC crowns, using the Kaplan–Meier estimator analysis. They determined a nine-year success rate of over 95 percent.
In recent years CEREC technology has only gotten better. It has been refined, improved, and advanced. Today’s CEREC system is like having an entire dental laboratory right here in our office!
What is Omnicam?
If you hate goopy dental impressions, you are certainly not alone. They are messy, uncomfortable for the patient, and may be imprecise. They are also entirely unnecessary in the CEREC process. Instead, it works with detail accurate, three-dimensional digital images captured by Omnicam. The process is fast, comfortable and efficient. The resulting image not only provides your dentist with an essential design tool, it also provides the CEREC machine with exact data for a beautiful fit.
Not just crowns – how CEREC is used
This advanced dental technology can be used to create virtually any type of porcelain restoration, right here in our office. The machine uses small blocks of ceramic, which are available in a wide variety of high-performance materials. Some are optimized for maximum aesthetics, and ideal for cosmetic enhancements on visible teeth. Others are optimized for exceptional strength and durability, making them wonderful for restoring back teeth.
In our office, CEREC technology is frequently used for:
- Full dental crowns
- Bridgework (dental bridges)
- Inlays (indirect fillings)
- Onlays (partial dental crowns)
- Porcelain veneers
