The benefits of removable partial denture techniques, fully explained by Gambrills, MD, dentist
At Bingham-Lester Dentistry, Dr. Vickii Bingham-Lester combines premium materials for the most durable, lifelike experience with dentures, and techniques that allow for a superior fit. How patients feel about their dentures depends on the fit of their dentures. Without a proper fit, the denture tends to slide around. It can rub up against the inside of the mouth and cause sores. Loose-fitting dentures also interfere with speech, and the ability to chew and digest food properly. There are many different denture systems and services available to Baltimore, MD area patients, including the removable partial denture from the Gambrills, MD office of Bingham-Lester Dentistry.
“Partials,” fully explained
Partial dentures are suitable for patients who still have some healthy, natural teeth. At Bingham-Lester Dentistry, every effort is made to preserve your natural teeth. So, we work closely with you on good oral hygiene at home and routine professional cleanings at our office.
Partial dentures systems can be removed from your mouth for cleaning, or they may be stabilized or fixed in your mouth with dental implants, which are placed in the jawbone. Removable partial dentures are made from replacement teeth that are designed to look and function like natural teeth, and from a prosthetic base that is designed to look and function like healthy, natural gum tissue.
Generally, Dr. Bingham-Lester recommends that dentures be designed and fabricated with a mix of Valplast and metal. Patients love Valplast because this flexible base resin looks very natural. Yet, metal is unsurpassed in terms of its strength and the stability that it provides to prosthetic teeth and gums. You can enjoy the best of both worlds, as Dr. Bingham-Lester may suggest Valplast for the front portion of the denture (in the “smile zone”), as it provides superior cosmetic benefits. However, the metal may be recommended toward the back of the mouth to optimally support the teeth and underlying structure that bears the brunt of the pressure from functions like grinding down chewy foods.
A pleasant, confidence-inspiring experience
The transition to getting dentures should not be stressful, time-consuming, or embarrassing. With Dr. Bingham-Lester’s approach to dentures, you never have to be seen with gaps. She offers immediate dentures that can be fitted during the same appointment as extractions. The process of getting used to dentures can also be expedited, thanks to the dentist’s “transitional” approach. She encourages patients to keep as many of their healthy teeth as possible for as long as possible. Prosthetic teeth can be added gradually, a conservative technique that allows existing natural teeth to stabilize the bone. As more natural teeth are lost, additional prosthetic teeth may be added.
